These series of oil paintings are small studies inspired by the painter Ingres and the idealised depiction of the smooth, female form. I try and subvert this idea by superimposing text that contradicts any preconceptions about the images. These paintings depict mother and daughter, the daughter has suffered multiple sexual assaults conveyed in the poem, the woman, her mother has bore four children, and has also suffered assault. They are both wounded, but their pain is contained. The mother is ageing, the daughter is in her prime, they both have a beauty and poise that unites them and keeps them bound together.
