Storm Paintings

The Kobi Nazrul Centre commissioned these paintings. Sanchita conducted a series of workshops asking the elders of St Hilda’s, young women at the Jagonari centre and the children of Thomas Buxton Junior School what images sprang to mind when they read the poem ‘Beware my Captain’. Written by Kobi Nazrul Islam, the poem conveys the turbulence of a storm. The storm is a metaphor for Bangladesh’s fight for independence during the liberation war between East and West Pakistan in 1971. These paintings were inspired by the workshop participant’s ideas and thoughts.
